Edward John Walker was born in 1888 in London. He served in WW1 in the Royal Artillery Division.During a charge to gain ground at The Battle of Ypres, his cannon and horses were hit with a shell. He subsequently lost all of his hair and never spoke of the horrors he had witnessed. Edward survived the initial impact but was pinned down under a dead horse for nearly three days in “No mans land”. Miraculously he survived by drinking rainwater and nursing a crushed pelvis amongst other injuries. He was discovered by other Allied forces and rescued and returned home to London to recover.

Florence Clara Parfree was born in London in 1884, who worked in the clothing industry, until their daughter, Irene Walker was born. They were married in 25th May 1912 in Hackney.

After the war he struggled with his injuries from the war. Edward worked for Bush electronics until his death 1956. Florence and him had one daughter Irene and a son Lesley who died in infancy. Here is a picture of him with one of his two grandchildren Diana.

Here she is pictured with her sister Rosie Liza on a trip to clacton in the early 1950's. She passed away 1957.
